A statement from Children First: We stand against racist violence
Mary Glasgow, Chief Executive of Scotland's national children's charity said:
"Children First stand with children and families of colour and marginalised communities against the racist violence that we have seen in Scotland over the last week.
"Our mission at Children First is to keep all children safe. As a result of the recent violence, children, families, colleagues and supporters from Black, Asian and Mixed Heritage communities will be feeling worried and potentially very unsafe, particularly in our cities. For children especially, seeing racist rioters will be confusing and frightening.
"Racism is a child protection and human rights issue and must be treated as a safeguarding concern. As Scotland’s national child protection charity we are committed to doing everything we can to make our country one where all children’s lives are free from racism, discrimination and exclusion.
"We will not stand by while people stoke racial division and hatred. We are committed to challenging racism wherever we see it, doing all we can to make our services equitable and inclusive and to standing up for all children and families and progressing their rights.
"Our support line offers all families in Scotland free practical, emotional and financial support and advice. If you need us, we’re here for you. Call 08000 28 22 33 or start a webchat at www.childrenfirst.org.uk/supportline."
