Community Fundraising Volunteer

Children First is Scotland’s national children’s charity. We stand up for children, keep them safe and support them to recover from trauma and abuse through our national and local services.
We're looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers who can give around 6 hours a week to help grow support for Children First across Edinburgh, East Lothian and Midlothian. With no fixed shifts or set days, you can fit volunteering around your existing commitments.
This flexible role provides the opportunity to make a real difference to children and families across Scotland while meeting new people in the community and building skills and confidence. We give you all the training and support you’ll need and can reimburse reasonable expenses.
As a Community Fundraising Volunteer, you'll help local businesses support our work through collection cans and community fundraising. Every conversation you have, every collection can you place and every donation you collect helps children and families get the support they need to stay safe, recover from trauma and build brighter futures.
What will I be doing?
As a Community Fundraising Volunteer, you'll build relationships with local businesses, encourage support for Children First and help manage our network of collection can locations. You'll visit businesses, collect donations and raise awareness of the difference Children First makes, helping turn community generosity into vital support for children and families across Scotland. This will include:
· Raising awareness of Children First in the community and encouraging local businesses to support children and families across Scotland.
· Visiting collection can locations and collecting donations, replacing full cans and keeping fundraising materials up to date.
· Building strong relationships with local businesses and helping them see the difference their support makes.
· Spotting opportunities to grow support for Children First and helping more local businesses get involved.

What do you need from me?
One of the great things about this role is its flexibility. There are no fixed shifts or specific times you need to be available. Instead, you'll be able to arrange visits to collection can locations at times that work for you, making it easy to fit volunteering around work, family and other commitments.
We have 27 collection can locations across Edinburgh, East Lothian and Midlothian, with some requiring more frequent visits than others. Whether you can support one area or several, we'll work with you to find an arrangement that fits.
We're looking for someone who enjoys meeting and talking to people, building positive relationships and representing Children First in their local community. You'll be friendly, reliable and organised, with a commitment to supporting children and families across Scotland. As the role involves visiting businesses across the area, you'll need a full driving licence and access to a car.
What training and support will I get?
We'll help you get started with a welcoming induction, where you'll learn more about Children First, our work and what to expect in your volunteer role. You'll also have a named member of staff who'll be on hand with advice, support and encouragement whenever you need it.
We don't want volunteering to cost you anything. Reasonable travel and other agreed out-of-pocket expenses can be reimbursed.
What will I get from volunteering?
Volunteering with Children First is a chance to make a real difference while gaining something for yourself too. You'll have opportunities to build confidence, develop new skills, meet new people and enhance your wellbeing through meaningful volunteering. You'll also gain experience in community engagement, communication and relationship building while helping to support children and families across Scotland. We'll also take time to understand what you'd like to gain from volunteering and support you to develop in the role wherever possible.
