New resource launched to support armed forces families moving to Edinburgh
A new resource from Children First has been launched to help armed forces families settle into life in Edinburgh.
The charity’s Armed Forces: New Beginnings project has created a friendly new guide and map to help families relocating to the capital to get to know their new local area, find the essentials they need and discover what the city has to offer.
Funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, the resource brings together practical information based on advice and reflections from forces families who have experienced the challenges and opportunities of moving to Edinburgh.
Lynn McGilvary, project worker in Children First’s Edinburgh team, said:
“Moving to a new area can be a big change for children and families, particularly for armed forces families who may have to move away from family, friends, familiar places and established support networks.
“Through our New Beginnings project, we wanted to create a practical, welcoming resource that helps families find their feet, explore Edinburgh and start to feel at home.
“The support and funding we’ve received from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust has been crucial in enabling us to develop this resource with shared experiences at its heart. We hope it gives families the confidence and information they need to make a positive start in their new community.”
Commenting on the new resource, one mum said:
"The map is very detailed and the information is great. It will really help new families find everything needed! They will have more confidence.”
