Children First seeks new Chair of the Board
Children First, Scotland’s national children’s charity, is looking for an inspiring and dynamic new Chair of the Board of Trustees to stand up for Scotland’s children.
The new Chair will govern and guide the charity’s work to create a safer, brighter future for all children in Scotland.
Last Autumn, Children First declared the nation is living in the midst of a childhood emergency. A survey the charity conducted showed around two thirds of people believe childhood is worse now, for children in Scotland, than it was in the past.
Mary Glasgow, chief executive of Children First explains: “Now more than ever, children and families need our support to help create a brighter future. Our new Chair will play a pivotal role in steering us as a charity through an exciting new chapter of growth and impact as we develop a new and ambitious strategic plan.”
The charity says too many children in Scotland are facing unprecedented challenges including poverty, fear and isolation, anxiety and trauma caused by violence, abuse and online harm. But with the right support, children and families can recover and live safe and happy lives.
Children First’s vision is that all children in Scotland grow up safe and well in strong, resilient families and communities. In the last year alone, Children First supported more than 9,300 children and their families to have a brighter future by offering practical, emotional and financial help through its national support line and local services.
The charity’s campaigning work is led by the voices of the children and families it supports. Children First has a strong track record of success in improving legislation, policy and practice to transform the lives of all children in Scotland, which it is determined to continue to build on.
Mary Glasgow added: “We need someone with vision, passion and the ability to inspire others. They’ll need proven leadership skills and experience operating at a senior level in corporate, public, or third-sector environments.
“If you share our vision and values, we would love to hear from you. Together, we can ensure every child in Scotland has the safe and loving childhood they deserve.”
