Lucy's Story
Donations like yours are life-changing for the children and families we support. Children like Lucy, whose mental health had been badly affected by trauma in her life.
After enduring an abusive relationship at the hands of Lucy’s* dad, Sarah* and her two-year-old daughter fled their home. Horrifically, over a six year period, their abuser repeatedly managed to track them down, forcing Lucy and her mum to uproot their lives over and over again.
The years of trauma and isolation meant Lucy had become very withdrawn and she struggled to make friends at school. Sarah was desperately worried for her daughter’s mental health.
Fortunately, Lucy’s new school connected them with Children First having seen the difference the charity had made to the lives of other young people. Through one-to-one sessions at home and in the Children First community hub, our team helped Lucy to process the complex emotions that she was feeling and supported her to recover from her traumatic experiences. As the months passed Lucy began to get her life back.
