Unanimous vote on Children (Care, Care Experience and Services Planning) (Scotland) Bill is to be celebrated
Commenting on the passing of the Children (Care, Care Experience and Services Planning) (Scotland Bill) by the Scottish Parliament, Linda Jardine, Director of Children and Family Services, Children First said:
“There is much to be celebrated in the unanimous vote for the Children (Care, Care Experience and Services Planning) (Scotland) Bill. For children and families, especially in care experienced communities, it signals a renewed commitment by all political parties to collaborate to keep the promise, that every child will grow up safe, loved and supported.
“By giving family group decision making a clear and consistent place in legislation and strengthening support for kinship carers the passing of the Bill will strengthen Scotland’s early help and preventative support systems. If fully put into practice the measures in the Bill will go a long way to addressing the situation where too many families in Scotland struggle to find early help, their voices aren't heard in decision-making, challenges grow into crises and more pressure is placed on the care system.
“The next Parliament must now ensure robust investment and scrutiny of implementation to ensure there is no gap between policy intent and children and families’ day to day experiences of support and care. “
