Register now for Children 1st’s Family Group Decision Making training
Children 1st, in partnership with Robert Gordon University is offering in-person comprehensive SCQF level 9 certified training in Family Group Decision Making (FGDM).
The training is aimed at social workers, health, social care, and/or children’s services professionals. It is particularly relevant for those who want to develop and improve their skill and knowledge in delivering FGDM, or who want to explore the model’s application to their service. This training is delivered 3 times a year.
FGDM is an approach that brings a child’s wider family together to agree a family plan to support their child, before a life-changing decision is made about the child’s future. It offers professionals a practical way of fulfilling Scotland’s Promise to keep children safe and loved in their families and to uphold children’s rights under the UNCRC.
Children 1st has been the driving force in bringing FGDM to Scotland. We are educating and training local authorities and partner organisations about the approach and its far-reaching impact for children and families.
The course uses a mixture of learning styles, including experiential learning to engage the heads and hearts of participants, and at the end of the course you will:
- be able to coordinate and run an effective Family Group Meeting
- understand the theory underpinning FGDM and how it is applied in practice
- be able to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and values required to act as an FGDM coordinator
- be able to compare FGDM with another model and the circumstances under which FGDM is appropriate.
The training is taking place in Glasgow City Centre on the 27th, 28th of April and the 11th, 12th of May 2023.
