Death of 17-year-old Jonathan Beadle at Polmont YOI
Children 1st response to death of 17-year-old Jonathan Beadle at Polmont Young Offenders Institution
Children 1st Chief Executive, Mary Glasgow, said: "Seventeen-year-old Jonathan Beadle's death is a terrible tragedy. Prison is no place for children and Jonathan should never have been there. Following a change to Scots law, children should be placed in secure accommodation, if they need to be.
“Children cannot get the support they need to build a more positive future in prison and their human rights cannot be fully respected. The Scottish Government need to act with as much urgency as possible to ensure children are placed in spaces that offer them the care and protection they deserve, to avoid breaching their responsibilities under the UNCRC."
