Comment on keeping the Promise
Five years ago, Scotland made a promise to care experienced children and young people - you will grow up loved, safe and respected. And by 2030, that promise must be kept.
Today the Oversight Board that monitors the progress towards keeping the Promise has published a new report.
Commenting on the report, Mary Glasgow, chief executive of Children First said: “At Children First we share the Oversight Board’s confidence that with re-doubled efforts the Promise can still be kept by 2030. Everything we do at Children First is driven by children’s rights to get the support they need to stay safe, loved and well with their family network and our commitment to keep the Promise is as strong as ever.
“Every day families tell our local and national services that it’s far too hard to get the support they need, when they need it. With renewed energy we will continue to drive forward the roll out of Bairns Hoose, the embedding of family group decision-making across the country and the offer of whole family support which is easily available and accessible to every family that needs it.
“As the Oversight Board recognise, addressing the imbalance of support and resource for families and ensuring that funding is sustained and better targeted is crucial. As well as making better use of the Whole Family Wellbeing Fund, a sustainable Scotland-wide funding model for family group decision making will be required if this approach is to made available to every child who would benefit from it.”
