Children 1st responds to First Minister's Priorities
Responding to the First Minister's statement on his priorities, Mary Glasgow, Chief Executive, Children 1st said:
“It is disappointing that in setting out his priorities today, the First Minister has missed the opportunity to clearly re-state the Scottish Government’s intent to deliver access to a Bairns Hoose for every child and young person that is a victim or witness of crime.
“To transform Scotland’s systems of care and justice to avoid re-traumatising children, help children recover from abuse and violence and uphold children’s rights, as set out in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), the Government must ensure consistent and well-resourced roll out of Bairns Hoose. They must listen closely to the voices of children themselves to deliver a compassionate justice system for child victims that has rights, and recovery at its heart."
