Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport Tool Launch
New Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport tool will support sports club to keep children safe in sport.
A new online self-assessment and action planning tool from Children 1st and sportscotland will help sports clubs, organisations and governing bodies to make continuing progress in supporting children’s wellbeing and keeping children safe from abuse in sport.
The free and easy-to use tool will help sports organisations to assess what they are currently doing to keep children safe in sport and to promote their wellbeing. It will also support them to draw up an action plan, linking them to additional resources and advice about what more they can do to support children and young people’s wellbeing and create an even safer sporting environment for them.
Club volunteers and officials within the sports governing bodies have played a key role in supporting Children 1st and sportscotland to make sure the tool is as intuitive and simple to use as possible.
David Black Service Manager from Children 1st’s Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport team said:
“We’re delighted to be launching the Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport tool today, in partnership with sportscotland, which will benefit thousands of children and young people in Scotland for years to come.
“The tool has been purposely designed to make it easy for sports clubs and organisations to reflect on where they are and continuously improve on what they are doing to keep children safe and promote children’s wellbeing. What we’ve tried to do is consult with governing bodies and clubs to get it right and make it as intuitive and accessible as possible. You can add notes and assign yourself tasks to your club’s self-assessment, so that you can capture all your thoughts in one place.”
He added:
“All children and young people have a right to rest, leisure and play as part of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Ensuring that children and young people of all ages can take part in safe and fun sporting activities at all levels, upholds these rights and increases their wellbeing.”
