From the outside, Finn's life looked ordinary
A house with two cars. A mum and dad. A sister.
But inside, he was afraid. Finn is just eight years old.
He never knew what each day would bring. Sometimes shouting. Sometimes silence. Sometimes something worse. At night, he would lie awake listening for sounds that might mean danger.
No child should live like this. But right now, across Scotland, too many do.
Protect Scotland's children today
When his dad was gone, Finn would sleep beside his mum, just to feel safe.
His sister Sophie tried to protect him. But she was only a child herself. Both of them were carrying more than any child should ever have to.
Over time, the fear built up. Finn began to lash out, not because he wanted to, but because he didn’t know where else to put the feelings inside him.
Things reached breaking point
Child protection services and the police became involved. The family needed help.
And because of supporters like you, Children First was there.
Because of kind people like you, Children First was there when Finn needed help most.
With support from his support worker, Finn began to understand the fear and anger he had been carrying. His sister Sophie was able to feel safe again. And their mum was supported to build a calm, stable home.
No child should be surprised by kindness. And yet, for children like Finn, this is what safety feels like.
Right now, many more children across Scotland are still living like Finn once did.
Lying awake at night. Listening for footsteps. Hoping nothing bad will happen.
